Adolescent Therapy
I have over 10 years of experience working with young people in different capacities, including 4 years working as a therapist in a Bay Area public high school. I love working with adolescents because I appreciate their deep insights and perspectives into the world around them, as well as their raw emotions and sharp sense of humor. I’ve found that I have a knack for making easy and trusting connections with teenagers in general, even those who tend to distrust and reject many of the adults in their lives.
Parents have often sought therapy for their teens with me because they feel baffled and worried about the direction that their teen is going in. Parents frequently share difficult feelings of rejection by their adolescent, fear of who their teen is becoming, and confusion about what is normal at this stage of life. While I maintain confidentiality in therapy with my teenage clients, I also work closely with parents as needed to support them in navigating this time of life.
I find I work well with teens who are independent, opinionated, and/or formulating an identity and imagining a life for themselves that may be different than the families that they grew up in. I have significant experience working with anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal ideation as well as with teenagers who may seem to be “fine” on the outside but do not feel that way on the inside at all.
